What sailing from Malaysia actually means
It is the same ship — Genting Dream, 150,695 GT, 3,352 guests — running the same restaurants, slides and shows. The only difference is where you get on.
There are two itineraries, and they are very different trips:
- 3 nights, round trip. Depart Monday evening, a morning and afternoon in Singapore on Tuesday, a full day in Penang on Wednesday, back at your boarding port Thursday morning. Two countries, no flights.
- 1 night, one way to Singapore. Board Thursday evening, walk off in Singapore on Friday afternoon. The ship is your transport, not a round trip.
These sailings run roughly monthly, not weekly. There are far fewer Malaysian dates than Singapore ones, which is why they sell out earlier — especially around school holidays and festivals.
Worth checking first: Melaka and Port Klang are about three hours apart and both appear on this schedule, sometimes in the same month. Always confirm which terminal your sailing uses before you drive.

Read this before booking a 1-night
The one-night sailings do not bring you home
The one-night sailings are one way. You board in Malaysia and disembark in Singapore — the ship does not bring you back. Plan the return leg before you book: a flight from Changi, a coach, or a Genting Dream sailing back out of Singapore a few days later. We price the whole trip, not just the ship, so nobody is left stranded at Marina Bay.
Guests book these by mistake more often than any other sailing on the schedule. If you want to end up back in Malaysia, the 3-night round trip is the one you want.
Three ways people use it
- 1Cruise out, fly back. Two or three days in Singapore, then a short flight home from Changi. The most common plan, and usually the cheapest.
- 2Cruise out, cruise back. Pair it with a Genting Dream sailing out of Marina Bay a few days later — a weekend getaway or a Melaka sailing. Two cruises, one holiday.
- 3Cruise out, coach back. Cheapest of all if you are near Johor or Melaka, and easy to arrange from Singapore.

What it costs beyond the fare
Malaysian departures are usually quoted in Malaysian ringgit, and fares move weekly. We quote live for your sailing rather than printing a number that goes stale. The charges below are set by the cruise line and are the same whichever port you board at.

The practical bit
Boarding day and documents
Most of what goes wrong on these sailings is paperwork, not the ship.
- Check which terminal you are using
Melaka ICQS Cruise Terminal and Port Klang Cruise Terminal are about three hours apart. Both appear on this schedule, sometimes in the same month. Your cruise ticket is the final word.
- Online check-in closes 48 hours before
Mandatory on every Genting Dream sailing. Do it as soon as your booking is confirmed — it is the single most common thing guests forget.
- Passport, not MyKad
Every guest needs a passport valid at least six months beyond the sailing date, including children. A Malaysian identity card is not enough, because the ship calls at Singapore and Thailand.
- Singapore entry rules apply at the port call
Malaysian passport holders do not need a visa for short visits, but everyone must submit the SG Arrival Card online before arriving in Singapore. Other nationalities should check their own visa position.
- Arrive at the time on your ticket
Not earlier. Food cannot be eaten in the terminal waiting area, so finish it before the security checkpoint.
- Onboard accounts are in Singapore dollars
Gratuities, drinks, Wi-Fi and purchases are charged in SGD to your onboard account, even when you board in Malaysia. Reception is on Deck 6 MID.
Board in Malaysia if
- You live in the Klang Valley, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan or Johor — the terminal is a drive, not a flight
- You want Singapore and Penang in one trip without booking flights or hotels
- You are travelling with older parents or small children and want to avoid an airport entirely
- You want the one-way sailing as transport into a Singapore holiday
- The monthly dates happen to suit your leave
Sail from Singapore instead if
- You want choice of dates. Singapore has weekly sailings; Malaysia has roughly monthly ones.
- You want Phuket or Bali. Those itineraries only run out of Marina Bay.
- You want a 2-night weekend. The shortest round trip from Malaysia is three nights.
- You want a different ship. Navigator of the Seas, Disney Adventure and Star Voyager all sail from Singapore.

Which Malaysian ports does Genting Dream sail from?
Two: Melaka ICQS Cruise Terminal and Port Klang Cruise Terminal near Kuala Lumpur. Both run the same two itineraries — a 3-night round trip calling at Singapore and Penang, and a 1-night one-way sailing to Singapore.
Is the 1-night cruise a return trip?
No. The one-night sailings from Melaka and Port Klang are one way. You board in Malaysia and disembark in Singapore, and you arrange your own way home. Many guests pair it with a few days in Singapore and fly back, which we can book together with the cruise.
How much does a Genting Dream cruise from Malaysia cost?
Fares are usually quoted in ringgit and move weekly, so we price live rather than publishing a figure that goes stale. What does not change are the extras: gratuities of SGD 27 to 40 per guest per night depending on cabin, port charges and taxes, and a SGD 10 per guest per night fuel surcharge on bookings made from 1 October 2026.
Do I need a passport if I am only sailing to Singapore?
Yes. Every guest needs a passport valid at least six months from the sailing date, including children. A MyKad is not accepted because the ship enters Singapore and, on the 3-night sailing, Penang is a domestic call but Singapore is not.
How far is Port Klang Cruise Terminal from Kuala Lumpur?
About an hour by road from central Kuala Lumpur and roughly 90 minutes from KLIA, depending on traffic. Melaka ICQS Cruise Terminal is about two hours from Kuala Lumpur and three and a half from Johor Bahru.
Can I board in Malaysia and get off in Singapore on the 3-night sailing?
The 3-night itinerary is sold as a round trip back to your boarding port. If you want to end in Singapore, the 1-night one-way sailing is the one to book. Ask us and we will check whether the cruise line will allow a one-way booking on your date.
Is the food halal on board?
Genting Dream operates as an OIC/SMIIC standard halal-friendly cruise ship. The Lido buffet has a dedicated halal section with separate preparation and utensils, and a surau is available. Offerings can vary by sailing, so confirm at Guest Services on day one.
Which cabin should Malaysian families book?
On a 1-night sailing an Interior stateroom is usually enough, since you are barely in the room. On the 3-night sailing with two port days and a sea day, a Balcony is the upgrade most guests say was worth it. We check the deck plan and suggest a specific cabin rather than just a category.
Can you invoice in ringgit?
We quote in ringgit or Singapore dollars for Malaysian guests, and in rupees with GST for guests travelling from India. Tell us which you prefer and the quote comes back that way.
How far ahead should I book?
These sailings run roughly monthly rather than weekly, so there are far fewer dates than the Singapore schedule. School holidays, Deepavali, Christmas and Chinese New Year dates go first. Book as soon as your dates are fixed.
