The Star Navigator Cruise (Formerly SuperStar Virgo) was more than just a luxurious cruise ship—it was a floating celebration of Asian culture, cuisine, and entertainment. With vibrant destinations across Asia and an energetic onboard atmosphere, this ship offered guests an unforgettable mix of relaxation and excitement. Each deck came alive with activities, shows, and world-class amenities designed for families, couples, and adventure-seekers alike.
What made SuperStar Virgo truly special was its diverse dining experience, featuring over 25 food, beverage, and recreational outlets. It proudly stood out as the first cruise ship in the world to feature a fully certified halal Indian restaurant, making it a popular choice for travelers across Southeast Asia and the Middle East.
Commissioned in 1995 and constructed by Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany, the SuperStar Virgo was custom-built to serve the Asian cruise market. It was the second ship in Star Cruises’ Leo Class series and was carefully crafted to reflect the tastes and preferences of regional travelers.
After its launch in 1999, SuperStar Virgo made Singapore its home port and began welcoming thousands of passengers on voyages throughout Southeast Asia. From short weekend getaways to extended regional cruises, the ship quickly built a loyal following.
Throughout its active years, the ship adapted to regional needs and events. During the SARS outbreak in 2003, it temporarily relocated to Perth, Australia, and continued to operate successfully. The cruise line also took advantage of major events like the 2008 Beijing Olympics, repositioning SuperStar Virgo to Hong Kong to attract more passengers during that time.
In addition to technical upgrades and new livery introduced in 2009 and 2012, Star Cruises enhanced the onboard experience with a giant 100-meter waterslide, reaffirming the ship’s appeal as a family-friendly and modern cruise option. From 2014 onward, the Virgo became the only international cruise ship regularly based in Hong Kong for seasonal voyages.
After years of serving as a flagship for Star Cruises, the SuperStar Virgo underwent a transformation to meet evolving market demands. In 2019, it was renamed Explorer Dream under the newly launched Dream Cruises brand, following an extensive multi-million-dollar refurbishment. This shift marked the end of the Virgo brand identity, but the vessel itself continued to sail.
However, the global pandemic in 2020 forced a pause in operations across the cruise industry. Although the ship briefly resumed sailings in Taiwan, mounting financial pressures on parent company Genting Hong Kong led to the eventual suspension of operations. By 2023, the vessel was acquired by Resorts World Cruises and relaunched as Resorts World One.
In a nod to its heritage, Resorts World Cruises revived the legendary Star Cruises brand in 2025 and reintroduced the ship under a new name—Star Navigator. While the vessel remains active today, its original identity as SuperStar Virgo has been officially retired, closing a beloved chapter in Asian cruise history.
